Pima Federal believes strongly in being a community partner and that our success is deeply tied to the success of our neighbors. Over the years, we have demonstrated extraordinary efforts in our community through the amount of volunteerism, educational support, and community giving/fundraising that we provide. We started our Community Stewardship Program in 2011 as a way to provide volunteer opportunities to our employees. Each year the program has become more and more impactful in our communities and in the lives of our employees.

During 2013, our community efforts were guided by one key concept: Improving the economic condition of our surrounding communities. These are the places we live, work, and play and, as a Credit Union, we have a responsibility to be more than good corporate citizens, we want to be seen as community builders. We were proud to see over 80% participation in the program during 2013 and our employees volunteered a total of 1,926 hours in the community. We also have developed a Financial Literacy curriculum that we teach in schools and we have a long standing partnership with Junior Achievement. In 2013, our employees taught financial literacy and college and career readiness to 834 local students. We awarded college scholarships to 3 graduating seniors and donated laptops and funding to local school districts. In 2013, we gave over $100,000 in corporate giving, and our employees fundraised over $6,000 for non-profit organizations through casual days and bake sales.

In 2013, we took our fundraising and volunteerism to a new level. We created a new position in our organization with the primary function of developing and fostering relationships with community organizations schools. We were able to directly partner with 61 local non-profits to offer volunteer support and we taught in over a dozen local schools. In addition, we hosted the Inaugural Pima Federal Golf Classic. This event was held at the Golf Club at Dove Mountain, in the town of Marana, Arizona. We secured a dollar for dollar match from Walgreens and were able to raise $50,000 for Tucson Values Teachers. These funds went directly into the classrooms of local schools in the form of much needed school supplies. We partnered with the Northwest Fire District to distribute these supplies to local teachers.

We have a firm commitment to enhancing the standard of living in our communities and to make Arizona a more desirable place to live. Pima Federal commits to allowing our employees to volunteer in a variety of was with a variety of organizations in order to contribute to the social fabric of our communities. We also encourage our employees to donate their own time to these organizations as a way to further the Credit Union philosophy of People Helping People.
